Twitter Search

While reading the posts of my peers, one mentioned that they prefer to use Twitter to search for information about certain topics. Also, Twitter search was mentioned in Richardson’s book as a way for teachers to help their students locate information. In my efforts to find out more about Twitter search, I stumbled across this video. It helped me to understand what Twitter search is and how to use it to look for information. This is pretty cool!

  1. Lyz, try this URL https://twitter.com/search
Then type in a search phrase or word.
You don't need a Twitter account to do a Twitter search.

Ultimately, I do suggest teachers learn about Twitter and open an account.

Let's say, you're a first grade teacher, you could type in the search box in twitter #1stchat

You would then see all the tweets that people used with that hashtag. If you liked a link to a source someone posted, you can use reply to let the person know.

When opening a Twitter account, once you go through the process of filling in the basic form, the next step is to complete a Profile page. Most people suggest adding an image to the Profile to represent you, but it does not need to be a picture of you.

If you want, I can explain Twitter in class. I use it often, but at first, it was also a bit of a mystery to me.

Now, because I have gotten the knack of it, it is my best professional learning tool.

Lots of elementary school teachers and principals are using Twitter to share information and connect. Each year, the number of educators on Twitter grows significantly.

  2. Forgot to say, I love these videos "...In Plain English." They are clever and simplify understanding information technology tools and how they work.
